STAFF

Deborah Grossman, FOUNDING GENERAL MANAGER/COUNSEL
is a graduate of Oberlin College, and studied voice and piano at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music. She has worked in musical theater and opera as a producer, director, stage manager and music director and pianist. She was the pianist for Stage Door Conservatory’s production of Once Upon a Mattress, and music director and pianist for its Into the Woods, Jr. She also worked in a similar capacity for OnStage at the Berkeley-Richmond Jewish Community Center, where she collaborated with Gina Scher on Annie Get Your Gun, Once Upon a Mattress, Alice in Concert and Really Rosie. She has produced the Christmas Revels for California Revels, directed production for the Pocket Opera and Livermore Valley Opera and stage managed for many Bay Area companies, including the San Francisco Opera Center, A.C.T. Conservatory, Lamplighters and Oakland Lyric Opera. Debbie now lives in England with her husband and children.

Gina Scher, CO-FOUNDER/COUNSEL
graduated from Yale University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Women's Studies. As an active member of Yale's Children's Theater, she performed story-telling programs, directed plays and led many drama workshops in New Haven's public schools. Her directing credits include Annie Get Your Gun and Really Rosie with the Berkeley-Richmond Jewish Community Center, Annie with the Bay Area Educational Theater Company and Into the Woods, Jr., The Wizard of Oz and Fiddler on the Roof, Jr., for Stage Door Conservatory. Recently, she completed a Master of Arts in Education and an elementary teaching credential at Mills College. She currently teaches kindergarten in San Francisco.

Rawna Romero, GENERAL MANAGER
accepted the offer to become General Manager of Stage Door Conservatory in the fall of 2003. Her stepson, Dani, has been participating in Stage Door Conservatory since he was in elementary school and will be performing in Teens on Stage for his third consecutive year this summer. Rawna, who also has a private practice as a psychotherapist in San Francisco and Alameda, brings many years of experience in arts and non-profit management to her role as General Manager.

Simon Kaplan, CAMP DIRECTOR and DIRECTOR OF ON BROADWAY
is a graduate of Northwestern University where he received a Bachelor of Science in Theater. Before joining Stage Door Conservatory, Simon co-founded the Theater Workshop Program at the Berkeley-Richmond Jewish Community Center. He co-wrote I Got a Haggadah with the Mazel Tov Troupe. Simon has also worked professionally as both an actor and a director. Some of his credits include Fiddler on the Roof, Damn Yankees, Gypsy and Emperor Norton. In 2000, Simon toured both Northern and Southern California schools with the Traveling Lantern Theater Company. He has directed many plays through his involvement with Stage Door Conservatory, including: You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown, How to Eat Like A Child, Once Upon a Mattress, Bye Birdie, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and 42nd Street. Simon currently teaches theater for the Berkeley Unified School District and is an ensemble member of EastEnders, where he is a regularly featured actor and director.
